Advanced Departmental Elective Courses
1. Nursing Informatics: This course introduces students to the integration of information technology and nursing practice, focusing on electronic health records, data analysis, and decision-making systems. Students learn how to leverage digital tools to improve patient outcomes and streamline clinical workflows.
2. Evidence-Based Practice: Emphasizing critical appraisal of research literature, this course equips students with the skills needed to apply scientific evidence in their practice. Topics include systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and quality improvement initiatives.
3. Research Methodology: Designed for advanced learners, this course covers qualitative and quantitative research design, data collection methods, statistical analysis, and ethical considerations in nursing research.
4. Global Health Issues: This course explores health disparities across populations and regions, examining the social determinants of health, infectious diseases, and global policy frameworks that shape healthcare delivery.
5. Healthcare Management: Students are exposed to administrative aspects of healthcare, including budgeting, human resource management, regulatory compliance, and strategic planning in healthcare institutions.
6. Telehealth Nursing: With the rise of remote care, this course provides insight into virtual consultations, patient monitoring systems, digital health platforms, and telemedicine protocols used during pandemics like COVID-19.
7. Ethics in Healthcare: This course addresses moral dilemmas in nursing practice, exploring ethical frameworks, legal responsibilities, confidentiality issues, and cultural sensitivity in diverse healthcare settings.
8. Maternal and Child Health Nursing: Focuses on prenatal care, childbirth, neonatal assessment, childhood illnesses, growth and development, and family-centered care models for maternal and child populations.
9. Mental Health Nursing: Covers psychiatric disorders, therapeutic communication, de-escalation techniques, medication management, and community-based mental health interventions for individuals with mental illness.
10. Geriatric Nursing: Prepares students to manage the complex needs of elderly patients, including chronic diseases, cognitive impairments, falls prevention, end-of-life care, and palliative nursing strategies.
Project-Based Learning Philosophy
The department strongly advocates for project-based learning as a core component of the nursing curriculum. Projects are structured to encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and real-world application of theoretical concepts. Students work in teams to design interventions, conduct literature reviews, analyze data, and present findings.
Mini-projects begin in the third year and involve small-scale studies or simulations related to clinical practice. These projects are assessed through rubrics that evaluate research quality, presentation skills, ethical considerations, and teamwork.
The final-year capstone project is a comprehensive study involving either an original research initiative or a community-based intervention designed to address a specific health challenge. Students select their projects in consultation with faculty mentors who provide guidance throughout the process.
