Advanced Departmental Electives

These courses are designed to deepen students' understanding of specialized legal domains and prepare them for advanced practice or research.

  • Law and Economics: Explores the intersection of economic theory and legal institutions, focusing on how market mechanisms influence legal outcomes. Students analyze antitrust laws, regulatory economics, and behavioral law and economics.
  • Comparative Legal Systems: Provides a comparative analysis of different legal traditions, including common law, civil law, and religious law systems. The course emphasizes jurisprudential differences and their impact on modern legal practice.
  • Legal Research and Policy Analysis: Teaches students how to conduct comprehensive legal research and evaluate policy implications. Students learn to draft policy briefs, analyze legislative history, and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Advanced Constitutional Law: Delves into constitutional interpretation techniques, federalism, and the role of courts in safeguarding individual liberties. The course includes an examination of landmark judgments from the Supreme Court of India and international courts.
  • Special Topics in Law: Offers an in-depth exploration of emerging legal issues such as artificial intelligence ethics, space law, and biotechnology regulation. Each semester, a new topic is selected based on current global developments.
  • Internship and Field Study: Provides practical exposure through internships at law firms, government agencies, or NGOs. Students engage in real-world legal work while applying classroom knowledge to solve actual problems.

Project-Based Learning Philosophy

Our approach to project-based learning is centered on fostering critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and real-world application of legal concepts. Projects are integrated throughout the curriculum to ensure that students develop both theoretical understanding and practical skills.

Mini-Projects (Years 1–2)

Mini-projects are assigned in the second and third years to help students apply their knowledge in simulated scenarios. These projects typically involve analyzing a specific legal issue, preparing a research paper, or developing a policy proposal. Evaluation is based on clarity of argumentation, relevance of sources, and presentation quality.

Final-Year Thesis/Capstone Project (Year 3)

The final-year thesis project allows students to pursue independent research in an area of personal interest within the field of law. Students select a topic under faculty supervision and conduct original research that contributes to legal scholarship or addresses a practical challenge in contemporary society.

Project Selection Process

Students choose their projects based on faculty availability, research interests, and alignment with current legal trends. Faculty mentors are selected from among the most experienced professors who specialize in relevant areas. The selection process ensures that each student receives personalized guidance tailored to their academic goals.
