Admissions

Admissions Process

The admission process for the Engineering program at Girijananda Chowdhury University Kamrup is designed to identify promising candidates who demonstrate academic excellence, aptitude for engineering, and potential for growth. The process involves multiple stages that ensure fairness, transparency, and alignment with institutional goals.

Application Procedure

Applicants must first register online through the university's official website or via the Common Admission Process (CAP) portal. They are required to fill out a detailed application form, upload necessary documents, and pay the application fee. The application window typically opens in May and closes in June for the upcoming academic year.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for admission, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Must have completed 12th standard or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCB/PCM combination).
  • Minimum percentage required: 60% aggregate for General category; 50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD categories.
  • Age limit: Minimum age 17 years as on December 31 of the admission year.

Entrance Examination

Candidates who qualify in the preliminary screening are invited to appear for an entrance examination conducted by the university or through national-level tests like JEE Advanced or JEE Main. The entrance exam consists of objective-type questions covering Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English proficiency.

Personal Interview

Candidates who qualify in the written test are called for a Personal Interview (PI) round, where they are assessed on their communication skills, reasoning ability, and interest in engineering. The interview panel evaluates candidates based on their performance and overall suitability for the program.

Merit List Preparation

Final merit lists are prepared based on the combined scores of the entrance exam and interview. Seats are allocated according to category-wise reservation policies and preferences indicated by applicants during the counseling process. Successful candidates receive a letter of admission and must complete the admission formalities within the stipulated timeframe.

Aspirant Guidance

Aspirants preparing for admission should focus on strengthening their core subjects—Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Regular practice of numerical problems, conceptual understanding, and mock tests are essential for success in entrance examinations.

During the counseling process, applicants must carefully select their preferred choices based on past trends, availability of seats, and personal preferences. It is advisable to prioritize institutions with higher rank cutoffs as they offer better opportunities for future career growth. Additionally, understanding the reservation policies and ensuring eligibility for specific categories can significantly improve one's chances of securing admission.
