Advanced Departmental Electives

These advanced courses are offered in the third and fourth years to allow students to specialize in specific areas of interest:

  • Cyber Law: This course explores the intersection of law and technology, focusing on data protection, cybersecurity threats, digital rights, and online dispute resolution. Students learn about international frameworks such as GDPR and national laws like India's Information Technology Act.
  • Environmental Law: Delivers a comprehensive overview of environmental regulations, sustainable development policies, climate change litigation, and conservation efforts. It also covers the role of international treaties in addressing global environmental challenges.
  • Intellectual Property Law: Examines patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and related legal mechanisms for protecting creative works and innovations. Students gain practical knowledge through case studies and real-world applications.
  • Human Rights Law: Focuses on legal frameworks that protect individual freedoms and address systemic violations of human rights. It includes topics such as refugee law, torture prevention, gender equality, and minority rights.
  • Public International Law: Provides an in-depth study of international treaties, state sovereignty, international organizations, and transnational legal disputes. Students analyze landmark cases from the International Court of Justice and other tribunals.
  • Corporate Governance: Covers corporate accountability, board responsibilities, transparency, and ethical standards in business operations. It includes an examination of regulatory frameworks such as SEBI guidelines and corporate social responsibility requirements.
  • Constitutional Law: Delves into constitutional interpretation, judicial review, federalism, and the evolution of constitutional principles. Students engage with landmark cases from the Indian Supreme Court and comparative analysis with global constitutions.
  • International Commercial Arbitration: Introduces students to alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in international trade. It includes training on arbitration procedures, enforcement of awards, and cross-border legal practices.
  • Criminal Procedure: Explores the procedural aspects of criminal justice, including investigation, trial processes, plea bargaining, and appeals. Students study case law from various jurisdictions to understand best practices in criminal procedure.
  • Family Law: Examines marriage, divorce, child custody, adoption, domestic violence, and other family-related legal issues. It includes a comparative study of laws across different cultures and societies.

Project-Based Learning Philosophy

The department believes that project-based learning is essential for developing critical thinking, analytical skills, and practical competencies in legal practice. Students are encouraged to work on real-world problems through group projects, individual research papers, and capstone thesis work.

The mandatory mini-projects are assigned at the end of each semester and must be completed under faculty supervision. These projects involve identifying a legal issue, conducting research, drafting arguments, and presenting findings in front of peers and faculty members.

For the final-year thesis or capstone project, students choose a topic of personal interest or relevance to current legal challenges. They are paired with faculty mentors who guide them through the research process, from initial proposal to final submission. The evaluation criteria include originality of approach, depth of analysis, clarity of writing, and adherence to academic standards.
