Advanced Departmental Electives

The advanced departmental elective courses are designed to deepen students' understanding of specialized legal areas. These courses provide in-depth exposure to complex issues and emerging trends in the field.

Corporate Governance and Securities Regulation: This course explores the regulatory framework governing corporations, including securities laws, corporate takeovers, and fiduciary duties. Students learn how to navigate the complexities of corporate compliance and ensure adherence to legal standards.

Digital Law and Cybersecurity: As digital technologies reshape the legal landscape, this course examines cybercrime, data protection laws, and digital contracts. It prepares students for careers in tech law and cybersecurity compliance.

Environmental and Climate Change Law: This subject delves into environmental legislation, climate change policies, and sustainable development practices. Students gain insights into international treaties and domestic regulations that govern environmental protection.

Intellectual Property Rights: This course covers patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, emphasizing their role in innovation and commercialization. It provides practical knowledge for IP litigation and licensing strategies.

International Law and Diplomacy: Students study international treaties, human rights law, and diplomatic protocols. The course prepares them for roles in international organizations, embassies, and global law firms.

Criminal Justice and Human Rights: This track explores the intersection of criminal justice and human rights, focusing on constitutional protections, fair trial principles, and rehabilitation models.

Public Policy and Legal Reform: This course bridges legal theory with policy implementation. Students examine how laws can be reformed to better serve society, particularly in areas such as access to justice, gender equality, and social welfare.

Dispute Resolution and Arbitration: This specialization emphasizes mediation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. It prepares students for roles in legal consulting, corporate dispute management, and international arbitration centers.

Project-Based Learning Approach

The department places a strong emphasis on project-based learning to foster critical thinking and practical application. Students engage in both mini-projects and a final-year capstone project that allows them to explore a topic of interest in depth.

Mini-projects are assigned at the end of each semester and involve analyzing real cases, conducting legal research, or presenting arguments on contemporary issues. These projects are evaluated based on clarity of argumentation, adherence to legal principles, and quality of presentation.

The final-year thesis/capstone project requires students to conduct independent research under the supervision of a faculty mentor. The project must demonstrate originality, depth of analysis, and relevance to current legal challenges. Students present their findings at a colloquium attended by faculty, peers, and practicing lawyers.

Project selection is guided by student interests and faculty expertise. Each student works closely with a mentor who helps them refine their research question, identify relevant sources, and develop a structured approach to their work.
