Capstone Project Guidelines
The capstone project represents the pinnacle of the undergraduate engineering experience at Dr Preeti Global University Shivpuri. It serves as a synthesis of all knowledge acquired during the program and allows students to demonstrate their ability to solve complex, real-world problems independently or in teams.
Project Scope and Objectives
The capstone project must address an authentic problem identified within the student's field of study or a related area. It should contribute to innovation, efficiency, sustainability, or societal improvement. Projects are expected to involve:
- Identification of a significant challenge in the field
- Development of a feasible solution using appropriate engineering principles
- Implementation or demonstration of the proposed approach
- Documentation of findings and recommendations
The project must be original, with no duplication of existing solutions unless clearly cited and extended.
Selection of Topics
Students may propose their own topics or select from suggested themes provided by faculty members. Proposals must include:
- A clear problem statement
- Objectives and expected outcomes
- Methodology and approach
- Timeline and resource requirements
Faculty mentors evaluate proposals based on relevance, complexity, and potential for impact.
Supervision and Support
Each student is paired with a faculty supervisor who provides ongoing support throughout the project. Supervisors assist in refining research questions, selecting appropriate tools or methods, reviewing progress, and preparing for final presentations. Regular meetings are scheduled to ensure timely completion.
Documentation Requirements
Students must maintain a detailed project logbook documenting all phases of the project. The final report should include:
- Abstract and introduction
- Literature review
- Methodology and design
- Implementation or testing results
- Discussion and conclusions
- References and appendices
The report is submitted in both hardcopy and digital formats, adhering to university guidelines.
Presentation and Defense
Students present their capstone projects at a formal symposium held at the end of the academic year. The presentation includes:
- An overview of the problem and solution approach
- Demonstration or simulation results
- Discussion of limitations and future work
Following the presentation, students defend their work before a panel of experts including faculty members, industry professionals, and external reviewers.
Evaluation Criteria
The capstone project is evaluated based on:
- Technical rigor and depth (30%)
- Innovation and originality (25%)
- Clarity of presentation and documentation (20%)
- Impact and relevance to industry or society (15%)
- Teamwork and adherence to schedule (10%)
This holistic assessment ensures that students develop competencies in both technical execution and professional communication.
